For our preliminary task we made a music video for the beginning of the kills song- No Wow. We worked in groups to produce this piece of work with different roles assigned to each person in the group.
Pre-production:
Firstly we story boarded the music video to match the shots in the original. We worked in a group to each produce a different part of the storyboard which allowed us to work more time efficiently. We wrote the lyrics alongside each section of the storyboard so when producing the video we could easily see which bits matched up and to prevent any confusion. We also made a prop list and took into consideration the props that we would need and where we could access these resources.
Production:
During the production we used a room with a white backdrop and special lighting so that we could achieve a professional look in the video. Our shots are accurate and varied and match up to the storyboard that we produced during the pre-production phase. We were overall happy with the final outcome of the video, as for a first attempt at filming and using the software it looked professional and developed forms and conventions of a real media product, such as the original video. However, on occasions some of the lip-syncing isn't perfect and could be more accurate as it doesn't match up that well with the music. So when it comes to producing the final product, we will focus on what went wrong here and how we can correct it. I have learned from the production of this video that editing and framing and filming the right shots can be a difficult and long process which emphasizes the importance of planning and the pre-production stages.
Post-Production: I learnt a lot during this stage of the process, particularly because I have never used the editing software before and therefore found out how complicated it was and how many shots are needed to compose the final piece. I therefore learnt lots of new skills from this part of the process. Some of these included trimming and clipping clips/shots and putting music to the shots. I also learnt how to put several effects on, such as the fade effect. I think that this part was a success. Most of the editing was good, however some parts we found difficult on the editing software to match the lip syncing up correctly. We would need to focus on improving the accuracy of this slightly in the future.
